‘Get set for Summer’ at Family Travel Centre’s Open Weekend Avon & Somerset Police to attend to tackle catalytic converter thefts, whilst local businesses line up to support the event, including book launch for local author and attendance from The Lord Mayor, Councillor Faruk Choudhury

Family Travel Centre is holding a family open weekend over the 6th and 7th July, designed to attract a broader audience new to the thrills of motorhoming.

With the support of local Avon and Somerset Police and attendance from The Lord Mayor, Councillor Faruk Choudhury, there will have a line-up of activities as well as a number of local businesses attending to recreate the fun of taking to the road in a motorhome.  Avon & Somerset Police will be offering free catalytic converter marking kits to up to 80 motorhome owners. The team at Family Travel Centre will be fitting the kits free of charge at its two-acre Flowers Hill Showroom in Bristol (Postcode: BS4 5JJ).

Local author BJ Mears will be launching the second series of his book in his successful ‘Tyler May’ spy thriller series for teenagers, and businesses including local cake company ‘Helen’s Cakes’, LouLou Sweets, Total Hospitality and local representatives from Phoenix Cards will also be attending.

Family Travel Centre was set up by three local dads, passionate about taking to the road in a motorhome to explore all that the beautiful south west has to offer.  The event will celebrate all the elements that make a great road trip, from the best of food and drink through to picnic and beach fun. For family fun, with a range of both indoor and outdoor events, even if the British weather plays up, you can be guaranteed a good time. There will be competitions and a chance to win a motorhome holiday, fun activities for children to take part in from face-painting through to treasure hunts, as well as special offers each day on its range of motorhomes – both new and used

Weekend Line-Up:

The line-up for each day kicks off at 10am with demonstrations and activities including children’s entertainment and play area events. There will be a mouth-watering BBQ
from Total Hospitality for all to enjoy. For the adrenalin junkies there will a range of gadgets on display from quad bikes to Cadacs. There will be displays and
information on many useful products and services for those considering – and those about to set off on – a roadtrip adventure including Snooper Sat Navs, Superguard
protection, Caravan Guard Insurance and more with advice aplenty from our expert team. Both days end will finish at 5pm.

Free catalytic converters

Police are urging motorhome owners to take advantage of these free kits and free fitting offer in order to tackle the problem of theft. Motorhomes have a higher clearance which make it easier for criminals to get underneath the vehicles and therefore are more vulnerable to having their catalytic converters being stolen. The kits will be given to owners to prevent further crimes and improve the chances of detection should their converters be stolen.

As numbers are limited, the team is encouraging motorhome owners who’d like to have the kit fitted to contact them in advance to book an appointment;

Police from Avon and Somerset will also be attending over the weekend to offer crime prevention talks to the public and respond to questions from any attendees.
